Finding and activating the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector


Go to the Admin Console and click on the Marketplace tab in the top menu

  1. To find the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector within the Marketplace, type a name of SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector in the “Search Marketplace” box and click the “Search” button

  2. When you have found the New Connector, click the “Add to Resources” button.

  1. Click the “Add Site” button to select the organization(s) for which you would like to activate the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector

A new window called “My Organizations” will pop up, where you can select the relevant organization(s) for which you would like to activate the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector

  1. Use Search field to find the organization you need.

  2. Select the relevant organization(s) by ticking the box next to it/them 

  3. Click the “Submit” button.

  1. Your selected Organization(s) will be displayed - you can remove an organization simply by clicking on the “Remove” button next to the organization.

  2. Click the checkbox to accept the terms and conditions of using the the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector and to make the “Add to Resources” button clickable. 

  3. Click on the Activate button to activate the the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector

A message will be shown in the top of Marketplace window confirming that the the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector has been activated


 

Configuring the SchoolMessenger K12 Social Connector


  1. Click on the “Resources” Tab in the top menu to see the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector Connector. The SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector will now be visible in the “Services” which can now be assigned for use by users in your organization.
  2. To configure the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector, first tick the checkbox next to the Connector itself.
  3. Click the “Configure” tab (next to “Selected resources”).

A pop-up SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector configuration window will appear.

1. For general instructions regarding the configuration of the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector, click on the “Help” tab in the top menu or “Help” button to watch a video devoted both flavors usage of: API based SSO and Credentials based SSO. In the “Configure” tab, you can make various changes to the appearance of the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector within the user Passport and to its configuration including:
Under the “Common Properties” section of the display:

2. You can change the name of the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector in the “Application Caption” field (or it can be left as is).

3. You can change the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector icon in the “Application Icon” field (or it can be left as is); if you want to upload your own icon, click the “Select .PNG File” button and follow the instructions to upload an alternative icon.

4. Tick the “Activate” checkbox if you want to use the Passport credentials to single sign-on into the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector. If you want to use your own credentials, you can skip this option.

5. Tooltips provide assistance for users.

6. You can use checkboxes “Use Default value” to reset parameters to default state.

Under the “SSO Properties” or “Provisioning Properties” section of the display:

If the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector has any custom configuration fields then the “SSO Properties” or “Provisioning Properties” section(s) will be displayed in the “Configure” window.

The connector supports SSO mode. To configure this option:

API Mode: Switch checkbox to enable/disable SSO via API Key. In API mode users do not need input password on Capture Credentials form for SSO, only username.

When API Mode enabled you would see two additional parameters:

API Key: Your own API key to K12 Social resource provided by K12 Social.

Username source: Select value from drop-down list that will be used for SSO as an username to K12 Social. It could be username from SSO Passport or user email address that specified in the user profile.

Assigning the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector to users in your organization(s)


  1. Click on the “Resources” Tab in the top menu to see the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector which will now be visible in the “Services” which can now be assigned for use by users in your organization.
  2. Select the specific role or group from the dropdown menu which appears in the “Roles & groups” tab to which you wish to assign the Connector (Non teaching staff Role is displayed by default). The specific role or group you have selected will appear in the section at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Please note that you can create and define new roles and groups of users within your organization(s) at any time using the “Add Role” or “Add Group” buttons and following the on-screen instructions.

  4. To assign the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector to specific roles and/or groups within your organization, first tick the checkbox next to the Connector itself. Please note that you can select multiple Connectors to assign if you wish.

There are 3 ways to assign the Connector(s) to users in your organization(s):

  1. You can assign the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector to your selected role or group by simply dragging it from the “Services” section and dropping it into the role or group section at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Then you map roles/groups to the App Roles.

  1. You can assign the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector to your selected role or group using the “Bulk Assign” tab and following the on-screen instructions.
  2. Then you choose roles, related folders and map to the App Roles.

  1. If you want to assign the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector only to an individual within your organization, then please click on the “Assign” tab and follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Then you map roles to the App Roles, and assign folder.

A message is displayed in the top of “Resources” window to inform that SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector has been successfully updated.

Please note, that you can assign the SchoolMessenger K12 Social SSO Connector (and any Connector) to multiple roles / groups.
