The Passport Configuration Screen

Selecting Resources opens the Passport Configuration screen, which allows you to assign Resources to end users and organize how those users view those Resources when they sign into SchoolMessenger Passport.


The Passport Configuration screen is devided into the following three areas:

  • Top navigation: This section allows you to select an Organization or sub-Organization, configure and assign Resources, select users and Roles/Groups, and create new Groups. See Top Navigation Section.
    • Selecting an Organization using the Organization pull-down menu refreshes the Services and Group/Role sections of the screen.
    • Selecting a user, Role, or Group using the User Roles & Groups pull-down menu refreshes the Group/Role section of the screen.
  • Services section: This section of the Passport Configuration screen allows you to work with the Resources assigned to the Organization that you selected using the Organizations pull-down menu. See Services Section.
  • Group/Role section: This section of the Passport Configuration screen allows you to work with the user, Role or Group that you select using the User Roles & Groups pull-down menu. See Group/Role Section.



Top Navigation Section

The top of the Passport Configuration screen appears as follows:



This section contains the following functions:

  • Organization: This pull-down menu allows you to select the highest-level parent Organization for which you have administrative privileges and any sub-Organization(s) that may exist beneath that parent Organization (see Architecture; opens a new article). Selecting an Organization refreshes the Services section of the page (see Services Section).
  • User Roles & Groups: This pull-down menu allows you to select a user, Role, or Group in order to view and assign the Resource(s) and folder(s) for that user, Role, or Group. See Managing Resources (opens a new article).
  • Add Role (Premium feature): Clicking this button allows you to create a custom Role. See Creating Roles (opens a new article).

Note: The Standard version of SchoolMessenger Passport does not allow you to create custom Roles.
  • Add Group: Clicking this button allows you to create a custom user Group. See Creating Groups (opens a new article).



Services Section

The Services section of the Passport Configuration screen appears as follows:



This section displays all of the Resources that are available to the currently-selected Organization and contains the following functions:

  • Add Resource: Clicking this button allows you to add a Resource to the currently-selected Organization. See Adding a Resource (opens a new article).
  • Add Bookmark: Clicking this button allows you to add a Bookmark to a web URL to the currently-selected Organization. See Adding a Bookmark (opens a new article).
  • Show: Clicking one of the links filters the Resources shown in this section as follows:
    • All: Displays all Resources.
    • Product Connectors: Displays only SSO and Provisioning Connectors.
    • Bookmark: Displays only Bookmarks.
  • Actions: Selecting one or more Resources and then clicking one of the following links performs the following function:



Group/Role Section

The Group/Role section of the Passport Configuration screen appears as follows:



This section displays all of the Resources that are available to the currently-selected user, Role, or Group within the currently-selected Organization and contains the following functions:

  • Show: Clicking one of the links filters the Resources shown in this section as follows:
    • All: Displays all Resources.
    • Product Connectors: Displays only SSO and Provisioning Connectors.
    • Bookmark: Displays only Bookmarks.
  • Syndicate: This pull-down menu allows you to syndicate Roles, folders, or Resources. Syndication allows you to replicate folders and Resources across multiple Roles. For example, you can:
    • Copy all settings from one Role to another.
    • Copy a folder from one Role to another.
    • Copy a configured Resource (and its configuration) from one Role to another.

  • New Folder: Clicking this button allows you to create a new folder to store Resources. Creating a folder allows you to group Resources for easier access by end users. See Adding Folders (opens a new article).
  • Role: If the Group/Role section is displaying a Role, then you can use this pull-down menu to select one of the following options:
    • Edit Role: Selecting this option opens the Update Role popup, which allows you to enter a new name for the selected Role.
    • Delete Role: Selecting this option opens the Delete Role popup, which allows you to delete the current Role.

CAUTION: DELETING A ROLE WILL REMOVE ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THAT ROLE AND ITS RESOURCES. THIS ACTION CANNOT BE UNDONE; IF YOU DELETE IN ERROR YOU WILL NEED TO REENTER ALL INFORMATION FROM SCRATCH.
  • Actions: Selecting one or more Resource(s) or Bookmark(s) and then clicking one of the following links performs the following function:
    • Edit: Selecting a Resource or Bookmark and then clicking this link allows you to edit the selected item. See Editing a Resource/Bookmark (opens a new article).
    • Remove: Selecting one or more Resource(s) and then clicking this link removes the selected Resource(s) from the Organization. Users will no longer be able to access or use the removed Resources(s). See Removing Resources (opens a new article).
  • Folder view: The bottom of the Group/Role section displays all of the folder(s) available to the currently selected user, Role, or Group. See Working with Folders (opens a new article) for more information about folders. Each folder has the following functions:
    • Expand/Collapse: Clicking this link toggles the expanded folder view on and off.
    • Edit: Clicking this link opens the Edit Folder popup, which allows you to rename the current folder. Enter a new name for the folder in the Folder Name field and then click OK to save your change.
    • Remove: If the folder is empty, you can click this link to delete the folder. A Confirm popup appears to ask you to either confirm the deletion by clicking OK or cancel the action.
    • Arrange: You can rearrange the Resources in a folder by clicking and dragging the individual Resource(s) to their new positions.
